LDD works for clients across four key market segments: oil and gas, renewable energy, LNG and resource terminals, and marine civil construction. As part of the Acteon Group, the company collaborates as required with other companies across the UK, to provide a full package of 'turnkey' solutions to clients.
Lucas Lowe-Houghton, Senior Bid Manager, says: “As well as access to a wide range of 'best in class' highly collaborative expertise in lifting, drilling, hammering, piling and grouting solutions worldwide, we have a highly experienced design and engineering team. This means we can offer a comprehensive project management service to our customers. We also have the capability to design and fabricate custom-built equipment.”
Reaching a global market
LDD has successfully landed a stream of major international projects. Over the last year alone, they handled projects in Scotland, Australia, Jordan, Republic of Congo, Guinea and Bahrain. They are currently deploying people and equipment to a major new project in China.
Lucas continues: “We are involved in some really impressive, industry-leading projects. LDD has become a flagship for Cornwall's capabilities in the marine sector. We can create drill rigs that are entirely designed, assembled and function tested in Cornwall.”
Pushing the boundaries
LDD has built up years of cumulative experience in large diameter drilling. They delivered one of the world's largest reverse circulation drill rigs. This was successfully used to drill at over 6.0m diameter with under-reaming equipment at Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm, North Wales.
LDD are currently exploring projects that will require drilling at 8m diameter, which shows how they are constantly pushing the boundaries of their technology. The company has invested heavily in R&D in order to keep innovating and stay ahead of its competitors.
A world-class location
Lucas says: “Cornwall is a great base for a business operating in the marine sector. There is a superb supply chain with all the specialist knowledge and expertise that may be needed. The marine sector is thriving and set for further growth. At LDD, our vision for the future is to continue to sell our integrated marine foundation packages globally. We want to deliver world class 'turnkey' solutions to clients.”
Lucas adds: “As we need to communicate with international clients, we benefit from the first class superfast connectivity at Tolvaddon Business Park. The ultrafast connections mean we can rely on crystal clear video conferencing and instant communications, enabling us to communicate with clients on the other side of the world as easily as if they were in the next room.
Cornwall is proving to be the perfect base for our fast growing and ambitious marine business.”
